Summer music and art camps offered through UW-Stevens Point

Weeklong music and studio art camps for students in grades 9-12 (including graduating seniors) will again be offered at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point through the Continuing Education program and the College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC).

Both the Camp COFAC-Music and Camp COFAC-Studio Art will be held June 24-30, with instruction by UW-Stevens Point faculty members.

Camp COFAC-Music is open to all vocalists, composers, and instrumentalists including strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion and piano. During the week students will immerse themselves in music, working closely with UW-Stevens Point faculty on their primary instrument in daily group lessons and master classes, as well as large and small ensembles. Other activities include evening recitals, recreational activities and a public concert on Saturday, June 30. The camp is directed by Mathew Buchman of the UW-Stevens Point Department of Music.

The cost for the music camp is $499 (with an early registration discount before May 31), and includes classes, meals, lodging, music and evening social activities. After May 31 tuition is $525. A commuter option of $399 is also available and includes lunches.

Camp COFAC-Studio Art campers will work in daily studio workshops as well as an optional evening life drawing workshop. Art campers will have five full days of instruction as well as evening activities, including open labs and social events. Studio classes will include glass fusing and slumping, metal casting and relief sculpture, graphic design, mixed media painting and assemblage sculpture. A gallery exhibition of the campers’ work will be held on Saturday, June 30. The camp is directed by Mark Brueggeman of the UW-Stevens Point Department of Art & Design.

The cost for art camp is $650 (before May 31) including all workshops, supplies, meals, lodging and evening social activities. After May 31 tuition is $675. A commuter option of $550 is available and includes lunches.

Registration is now open for both camps and early registration is strongly advised. A limited number of scholarships are available from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and COFAC.
