The Big Wu band to perform at costume ball concert
The Big Wu, a Minneapolis-based jam band, will perform at the Big Hall-Wu-een Bash costume ball at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Friday, Oct. 28. A central Wisconsin bluegrass band, Hott Saxxx Ensemble, will open the show.
Part of Centertainment Productions’ Alternative Sounds Series, the concert will be held at 8 p.m. in the Laird Room of the Dreyfus University Center, 1015 Reserve St., Stevens Point. The Big Hall-Wu-een Bash gives UW-Stevens Point students and community members a chance to celebrate in a safe and fun environment. The costume ball will include costume contests, Halloween-themed decorations and beverages for purchase.
Tickets are $10 for the public and $5 for UW-Stevens Point students with ID or, if available, free the day of the show. Tickets can be purchased at the Information and Tickets office in the Dreyfus University Center, by calling 715-346-4100, or online at http://tickets.uwsp.edu.
The Big Wu has been a jam band-fan favorite for over two decades. Big Wu joined the Minneapolis music scene in the late 1990s when they became the house band at the Cabooze, a famed Midwest music venue and bar. Within a few years, the band began touring nationally, gained airplay on indie and commercial radio stations across the country and was featured at Bonnaroo Music Festival in Manchester, Tenn., in 2003.
“The Big Wu has been a huge part of the Midwestern music scene for years and it’s a great honor to welcome them to our campus,” said Adam Greuel, alternative sounds coordinator for Centertainment Productions. “Halloween shows have always been really big for these guys and this is going to be no exception; expect a high-energy exciting atmosphere.”
