UW-Stevens Point names its first head of Enrollment Management
The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point has hired its first Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management.
Beginning August 1, Jim Barrett will head a new enrollment management unit at the university, which includes Admissions, Financial Aid and Registration and Records.
“In this era of declining public revenue, we know we need to reach beyond simple high school recruitment activities. We must have a systematic, research-driven, institution-wide plan to identify, recruit and retain our students,” said Greg Summers, interim provost and vice chancellor of Academic Affairs.
Barrett has more than a decade of experience in enrollment management, most recently as the registrar at UW-Eau Claire. His resume also includes experience at Fayetteville Technical Community College, Mid-State Technical College and Massachusetts Bay Community College.
Barrett earned a bachelor’s degree with a double major in political science and history from Manhattanville College and a master’s in teaching with a concentration in administration from Sacred Heart University.
“Jim’s impressive data analysis and management skills, combined with his familiarity with the UW and Wisconsin Technical College Systems, ideally position him to create and lead the strategic visioning of the enrollment management unit,” said Summers.
The new position is a challenge Barrett looks forward to tackling.
“One of the most exciting parts of this job is the opportunity to learn about and improve upon processes to meet student needs,” he said. “The work we do in enrollment management directly impacts people’s lives and their futures.”
Barrett and his wife Cathy previously lived in Stevens Point. They are looking forward to returning and raising their four young children in the community.
