Two professors of trumpet in the University of Wisconsin System will perform together in concert at UW-Stevens Point this month.
Brent Turney, associate professor of music at UW-Stevens Point, will present a faculty recital at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, joined by Kevin Hartman, professor of trumpet at UW-Milwaukee. Accompanying them on piano is UW-Milwaukee Adjunct Professor Peggy Otwell and Madison pianist Vincent Fuh.
The recital will include "Two Portraits" by Joseph Turrin, Concerto in F minor, Opus 18 by Oskar Böhme, Concerto in Bb, Opus 7, Number 3 by Tomaso Albinoni, "The Hollow Men" by Vincent Persichetti and "Concerto for 2 Trumpets" by Francesco Manfredini.
Turney has taught applied trumpet and jazz history at UW-Stevens Point since 2007. He also chairs the Music Department. A classical soloist, chamber musician, small and large jazz ensemble-recording artist and performer, he has played throughout the Midwest and is a popular soloist and clinician at high schools, colleges and jazz festivals. He has performed in 49 states and 20 countries.
Hartman has performed with the Chicago Lyric Opera, Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. He was also principal trumpet for several orchestras across the United States. He is a founding member of the Asbury Brass Quintet and a core member of the Fulcrum Point New Music Project. Hartman has also performed for several theater musicals and with popular artists.
Concert tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for senior citizens, $5 for youth and UW-Stevens Point students, faculty and staff, and free the day of the concert for students with a UW-Stevens Point I.D. if not sold out.
