Aber Suzuki Center to celebrate anniversary with faculty performance

Faculty members at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Aber Suzuki Center (ASC) will celebrate the center’s 45th anniversary with a concert on Saturday, March 31.

Free and open to the public, the concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Michelsen Hall in the Noel Fine Arts Center on the UW-Stevens Point campus. Eight faculty members will be joined by guests Rosalie Gilbert on harp and Anne Peck on violin.

Featuring works by such artists as Bach, Brahms and McLean, the performers will honor Margery Aber’s leadership in creating the ASC in 1967 as well as offering the first summer institute for Suzuki training in the United States.

The celebration will continue this June with events that will bring together alumni and families who have benefited from the ASC and from attendance at the annual summer Suzuki Institute.

“For students and families, hearing their teachers in ensemble together is very inspiring,” says Tim Mutschlecner, an ASC cello teacher. “Much of the joy in music-making lies in this kind of collaboration.”
