Art classes offered through UW-Stevens Point

Children, teens and adults have an outlet for creativity this summer in art classes offered through the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Continuing Education program.

Class offerings for children include:

  • Wild Things Mixed Media Exploration—Monday, July 23, 6–8 p.m. Children, ages 8–11, will create imaginary creatures, jungle animals and twining forest vines and flowers using paint, paper and collage techniques. Cost: $15

  • Tie Dye Workshop—Monday, July 30, 6–8 p.m. Kids and kids at heart will explore the fun art of tie dying. Children ages 9 and up as well as adults can bring T-shirts, pillow cases, socks or other items to dye. Cost: $15

  • Explore Drawing—Mondays, August 6 and 13, 6–7:30 p.m. Children, ages 8-11, will learn various drawing techniques including blind contour, contour drawing and composition. Cost: $27

Classes for teens and adults include:

  • Introduction to Drawing—Wednesdays, July 25–August 8, 6:30–8:30 p.m. Designed for beginning artists, ages 14 to adults, this class offers new drawing techniques and composition applications with charcoal, India ink and pencil. The cost is $49. Instructor Elizabeth Wellso is a member of the Stevens Point Arts Council and chairs the board of the Stevens Point Sculpture Park. She has taught at UW-Stevens Point’s Studio Art camps, worked as a gallery consultant and teaching assistant.

  • Illustration—Tuesdays, August 14–28, 6:30–8:30 p.m. This three-week class for ages 14 to adults will focus on depicting literature through illustration by redeveloping character and environmental concepts. A variety of drawing supplies will be provided or bring your own. The cost is $44. Instructor Ryan Weisenfeld is a student at UW-Stevens Point and directs and instructs the Student Art League’s community life drawing sessions. He is also the head counselor for the UW-Stevens Point Studio Arts Camp.

  • Life Drawing—Mondays, July 23–August 13, 6–8 p.m. This class, for ages 18 and up, looks at life drawing techniques including body proportions and form, spatial and dimensional measuring and gestural components. Beginning and experienced artists are welcome to attend and should bring a sketch pad and drawing supplies including pencil, charcoal, conte pastel or watercolor pencils. A nude female will be the model. The cost is $59. Instructor Ellen Larson is a teaching assistant for the UW-Stevens Point Studio Arts Camp.
