Supervisors are responsible for ensuring their employees are trained upon hire, annually and when situations arise which additional training is needed or requestsed, on and in all applicable topics and for maintaining training documentation for their employees. Supervisors will work with EHS through job hazard analysis to ensure training match the job responsibilities of the employees.
If a supervisors changes a work process, we recommend reviewing the original job hazard analysis on file to confirm if any changes.
If supervisors are creating a new position, we recommend completing the job hazard analysis when finalizing the pre-hire work to ensure position descriptions capture all necessary safety information.
Supervisors are welcomed to reach out to EHS to discuss, review and seek resources for their employee's training needs.
Supervisors must also ensure documentation of training is completed for compliance record-keeping purposes.
Employees are responsible for completing the training requirements assigned to them and following the protocols and safety initiatives learned. If an employee is encouraged to discuss all trainings if there are questions or interest in additional training.
Employees should keep documentation of training completions for their own records.
New employees will be automatically enrolled in required trainings from Vector Solutions.
Some roles based on their work will have additional trainings assigned.
If an employee feels that they have missed a training opportunity, it is important that they alert their supervisor.
Employees are encouraged to report a safety concern if they feel there is an opportunity to make campus safer for everyone! Report a Safety Concern
If online training is unavailable for a topic, customized in-person training can be administered. If in-person training is desired, contact EHS to determine training needs and schedule if applicable. Supervisors can also request "Train the Trainer" training for them to train their own workers.

OSHA has established a comprehensive training program for employees in the workplace. The OSHA 10 hour is a great way to train your workers in a variety of safety topics and provide an industry-recognized completion card from the Department of Labor. Contact your supervisor and then EHS if you are interested in scheduling an OSHA 10 hour training.

New employee safety orientation is currently provided by personnel from EHS and Emergency Management in an online course through CANVAS. NESO covers a variety of initiatives that provide awareness level training to new employees. Additional training may be required depending on your job position. Your supervisor will discuss further training requirements with you. All new employees will be required to take the NESO training. Training topics include:
