About
Brent Turney is an active cross-genre soloist and ensemble player throughout the country. His diverse musical background encompasses a range of styles and experiences. Brent is a sought after classical soloist, chamber musician and orchestral player, small & large jazz ensemble recording artist and performer, and commercial performer and recording artist.
Brent performs regularly throughout the Midwest and has performed with groups such as the Milwaukee Symphony, Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, Broadway in Chicago, Chicago Jazz Orchestra, Maynard Ferguson and Aretha Franklin. He is a popular soloist and clinician with high schools, colleges, and jazz festivals throughout the Midwest. Brent has performed in 49 states and 20 countries.
Brent Turney has been Professor of Trumpet at the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point since 2007. At UWSP Professor Turney teaches applied trumpet and jazz history and directs the Jazz Band. Previous to taking the position at UWSP, Brent was adjunct professor at DePaul University teaching jazz and classical trumpet, and directing big bands and jazz combos. In 2013 Brent launched a regional chapter of the International Trumpet Guild, the Wisconsin Trumpet Guild.
Brent holds degrees in classical performance from Penn State University (Bachelor of Music), jazz studies from DePaul University (Master of Music), and classical performance from DePaul University (Classical Performers Certificate). His teachers include John Daniel, Bob Lark and John Hagstrom.
