Student Permits

A Permit serves as permission to park and does not guarantee a space. Permits are not valid at meters or pay stations without payment. Student permits are sold on a first-come, first-served basis, until the permit sales maximum is reached.

Academic Year (2025-2026) permits are available to purchase according to the following schedule:

  • July 15, 2025-@ 8 AM--Graduate Students, Seniors & Juniors (60+ earned credits)
  • July 17, 2025-@ 8 AM--Sophomores (30+ earned credits) and Returning Freshmen
  • July 22, 2025-@ 8 AM--Incoming Freshmen

Permits can only be purchased as "Annual" at the beginning of the academic year, but can be cancelled for a partial refund at the end of the semester.  Spring semester permits are not available to purchase until December 18, 2024--if available.

Once the maximum number have been sold, a waitlist will be started.  NOTE that permits do sell out prior to the start of the academic year, so don't delay your purchase if you need one.

Permits are virtual, so your LICENSE PLATE IS your PERMIT!  License Plate Recognition (LPR) technology is used to capture and read a vehicle license plate to confirm that the vehicle is registered and has permission to park in the designated lot on campus.

Important:  Vehicle license plates must be unobstructed, affixed to the bumper, and displayed in view from the driving lane of a parking space.

Prior to purchasing your permit, be sure your vehicle information is accurate.  Students may initially register one vehicle with their permit purchase.  Additional vehicles may be added if they belong to family members. Adding vehicles needs to be authorized by Parking Services. Registration will be confirmed through the DMV to ensure students aren't sharing/selling/gifting permits. If you wish to change your vehicle, you must request authorization prior to parking on campus.  This can be done by emailing Parking.Services.Office@uwsp.edu.

PERMITS ARE NOT TRANSFERABLE TO OTHER STUDENTS (CANNOT BE SHARED WITH, GIVEN TO OR SOLD TO OTHERS).

2025-2026 PERMIT PRICES:  All Permits are valid through August 31, 2026 regardless of purchase date.  Note that permits are $300 for Lots JPQ permits or Lot W permits if purchased prior to November 4.  Commuter lots Y or T are $250 if purchased prior to November 4.  They are pro-rated after that point per the chart below.  Permits can only be purchased as "Annual" at the beginning of the academic year, but can be cancelled for a partial refund at the end of the first semester.
