Airport Arrival and Ground Transport to Campus
Onboard Your International Flight Before You Land in the United States
During your flight to your U.S. Port of Entry (the first airport
you reach in the U.S.) flight attendants will distribute Arrival/Departure
Records (Form I-94), and a Customs declaration (Form 6059B). You MUST
complete both for the U.S. Immigration and Customs officers at the U.S. Port of
Entry. Make sure you write your name on these forms so that your name matches
exactly how your name appears in your passport.
Upon Arrival at the United States
Port of Entry
All passengers are required to satisfy immigration & customs formalities
at the U.S. Port of Entry. Please queue in the lanes marked for
visitors/non-citizens.
The Immigration officer will ask to see your I-94, I-20, customs declaration
form, and your passport. You will be asked several questions and may be
finger-printed before the official stamps your documents, signifying permission
to enter the United States. Welcome!
Proceed to the Baggage Claim and collect your luggage. Next, proceed with
your luggage to U.S. Customs and Border Protection inspection area. You will be
asked for the completed U.S. Customs form. You may be questioned and your
luggage may be examined.
After you clear U.S. Customs re-check your luggage for continuation of your trip. Look for the airline baggage re-check counters and personnel just after Customs. Make sure to listen carefully as you re-check your luggage as the airline personnel will tell you your next flight's departure gate.
Transiting from the United States Port of Entry to Central Wisconsin Airport
Exit and proceed to the departure gate for your connecting flight to Central
Wisconsin Airport (CWA) which will be listed under "Wausau" or "Wausau/Stevens
Point". Keep your connecting flight's boarding pass and your passport handy, as
you will need to clear airport security before you reach your connecting
flight's departure gate.
Your flight to Central Wisconsin Airport (CWA) will be on a smaller airplane.
Sit back and relax...you're almost here!
PLEASE NOTE: Flight delays and cancelations occur from time to time. If you miss
your connecting flight, DON'T PANIC! Be prepared to spend a night in the city
that you are stranded in. Go to your airline counter and ask the airline
personnel to reschedule your flight, call the International Students &
Scholars Office at 715-346-3849 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. (central time)
or Dr. Van Den Elzen at 715-204-9010 after hours, and, if necessary, help you
secure a hotel room at a discount rate (for "distressed travelers").
