Take Action Against Phishing!

  1. Report phishing attempts in your UWSP Outlook Inbox as soon as possible to phishing@uwsp.edu.  Make sure to include the suspected email as an attachment.

See How do I include an email message as an attachment? on Information Technology's Email FAQs page.

Reporting a phishing attempt helps us to potentially block the malicious email from reaching others, and even prevent them from compromising their account and UWSP data.

  2. On your personal computers, always keep your web browsers up-to-date with the latest security patches.

Browsers installed through Information Technology services automatically update during IT's routine maintenance windows or sooner, depending on each browser's auto update capabilities.

  3. On your personal computers, Always make sure that you have good, up-to-date antivirus software that includes spyware protection.

Information Technology uses Microsoft Defender for UWSP's antivirus protection.  IT attempts to install new antivirus definitions within six hours or less after they are published.

  4. If you feel you have been tricked by a phishing scam, or had your identity stolen, email phishing@uwsp.edu immediately.

  5. For steps to start recovering from Identity Theft, see the Federal Trade Commission's Identity Theft page.
