Building Inspections

Below outlines the various inspection initiatives and responsibilities at UW Stevens Point.

Inspections Overview

All buildings on the UW-Stevens Point campus are inspected on an annual basis under a best practice, general provision.

Annual Building Inspections

Annual Building Inspections are to be completed by the assigned Building Manager.  If there is not an assigned building manager, Facilities will be responsible for building inspection.

EHS does not do the inspections but will provide guidance and assistance for Building Managers with general provision items such as:

  • Egress
  • End-user hazard prevention
  • Environmental hygiene
  • Other functional aspects of building safety if there are technical questions
The Building Inspection Checklist must be used for the annual building inspection.  If you have questions about using the form, please contact EHS.  Along with this document is a resource to guide your inspection from OSHA, Safety Walk Arounds for Managers.

Fire Inspections / Fire Extinguisher

Fire inspections are completed by the Stevens Point Fire Department on a periodic basis. Along with EHS and the Building Manager, SPFD will inspect the building to ensure compliance with local regulatory requirements.

Fire Extinguisher monthly inspections are completed by facilities personnel.  Annual fire extinguisher inspections are completed by Summit Fire Protection in conjunction with facilities personnel.

Lab Inspections

Lab inspections are completed in conjunction with lab PIs, and the UWSP Chemical Hygiene Officer.  For more information on this process see the UWSP Labs and Research website.

Other Inspections

Periodically other types of inspections can occur.  These inspections can be from regulatory bodies such as the Wisconsin DNR, or other pertinent parties such as the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services or the UW System group.  EHS will work with the appropriate departments, managers, etc to ensure the proper communication and preparedness occurs.
