​​Astronaut Training and Team​ Leader Meetings

Astronaut training is a chance for Astronauts to become a trainer to other Astronauts on different topics. All training rooms have access to a computer, projector, and audio systems. Additionally, all trainers will have the opportunity to compete for a position as one of the top 5 trainers.​ 

General professionalism guidelines apply, please make sure your session is appropriate for a professional setting. 

Please be prepared to present your presentation twice as your presentation may be selected in the Top 5 Educational Sessions to do an encore presentation. 

Current Educational Session Schedule for Saturday, November 9th​

Session 1: 9:00- 9:50 am

  • Reach for the Stars: Presenter: Dylan Meek -- Room CPS 209
    • How to reach far-away goals through motivation and goal setting that will help reach those goals. 
  • Fatphobia in Higher ​Education: Presenters: MJ Miller and Carson McCann -- Room CPS 116
    • When you think about the word fat what comes to mind? If you have never considered that question, then this is a space for you. Join us as we examine fatness in both housing and higher education. Come prepared to examine current practices and brainstorm solutions to create inclusive spaces for people of all sizes.
  • The Sun, The Moon, & Sleep as a Campus Leader: Presenter: Elliot Fey ​-- Room CPS 233
    • We will explore the circadian rhythm and how to optimize our day while keeping a productive schedule as a student.

Session 2: 10:00-10:50 am

  • Leadership Through Your Light-Years: Presenter: Gabby Weaver -- Room CPS 116
    • This presentation invites those to take a journey through outer space as they learn about their own personal leadership identities as it relates to the Cycle of Socialization. We will be taking time to get creative and color our own solar systems as well! I hope to see many of y'all there! 
  • Launch into your Next Orbit: Life after Housing: Presenter: Emily Johnson -- Room CPS 229
    • Started thinking about life after college? Wondering how you are going to put the skills learned in your housing role to use? Join us for a session that will prepare you for your next orbit in life and talk about the skills you gained in housing and how to utilize and market them in your next adventure! 
  • Inclusive Communities: Presenter: Bobbie Rothenberger​ -- Room CPS 233
    • How we can form inclusive communities within our residence halls. ​
  • ​Little Things Matter: Presenter: ​Wendy Gilbertson -- Room CPS 209
    • Whether in the dorms or working, some will always feel they do not belong. This simple make-and-take demonstration will teach you how something as small as a card can promote inclusion and belonging in any setting. ​​​

Session 3: 11:00-11:50 am

  • Murder Mystery & Self-Defense Escape Room: Presenter: Bailey Gilbertson -- Room CPS 116
    • Escape Rooms can be intimidating. So join me while I break it down with a short Escape Room 101 followed by a shortened simplified version of an Escape Room. Then you can see how easy they are to engage students, residents, or the community on or around your campus. 
  • You Matter Also: Presenters: Jack Burton and Alexandra Bradley -- Room CPS 233
    • Our program will focus on the many benefits of self-care and provide some self-care strategies that delegates can take back with them and put into practice! 
  • How to Bid for a Conference: Presenter: Kyan Stuart ​-- Room CPS 229
    • I will be discussing how to bid for the NACURH Annual Conference, things to know, and the overall process. ​
  • Accessible Programming: Presenter: Gabi Magolski ​-- Room CPS 209
    • A step-by-step guide to accessible programming broken down into three main steps. Starting before your event, moving to during the event, and lastly after your event! Includes​ a final checklist to make sure your event is inclusive to all potential attendees!  ​​

Ed Session Categories GLACURH2024.png​While Astronauts are hard at work in the training center, their Team Leaders will be busy in the Boardroom, located in the Dreyfus University Center (DUC). All three rooms will have access to a projector. The Legacy Room will serve as the Joint Boardroom space which has additional access to a microphone, and audio or visual surround system.​​
