CAST Certificate
There is a new certificate available through the Sociology & Social Work Department. The Child Advocacy Studies (CAST) certificate is nationally accredited through the Zero Abuse Project. Students who complete the certificate will be able to list the nationally recognized certificate on job and professional/graduate school applications. The CAST certificate is fully online (asynchronous) so students can complete the three courses without traveling to campus or having schedule conflicts with other courses in their major.
The CAST certificate is comprised of three-courses and built to meet the training needs for students planning to go into a variety of fields where a strong knowledge and skill base to recognize and respond to child maltreatment is an asset in their professional work. Students with majors in sociology, social work, psychology, pre-law, nursing, education, and communication disorders are only a handful of examples of majors whose career will intersect with child welfare.
The three required courses in the CAST certificate include:
- SW 316*: Child Welfare --> Fall, online and Spring, in person
- SW 316 is a prerequisite for SW 317 and SW 318.
- SW 317: Advanced Assessment & Intervention in Child Welfare -->Spring only, online
- SW 318: Responding to Survivors of Child Maltreatment --> Summer only, online
If you would like to add the CAST Certificate, please email Ms. Laurie Simonis with your name, student identification number, and the request to add the CAST certificate. Ms. Simonis' email is :
