Description

Get ready for an unforgettable two-day getaway to the Windy City, where winter magic meets big-city excitement! This mini escape is packed with iconic sights, hands-on adventures, and a cozy dose of Chicago charm.

Start your journey with a deep dive into imagination and innovation at the Museum of Science and Industry. Step inside a swirling tornado, explore the inside of a WWII submarine, or walk through a vintage passenger train—this museum is anything but ordinary. Afterward, unwind in style at the legendary Palmer House Hotel, a historic gem that’s just as sweet as its claim to fame: it’s the birthplace of the original brownie! In the evening, get swept away at the dazzling Cadillac Palace Theatre, where the powerful Broadway hit The Outsiders takes center stage.

Day two begins in a tropical oasis, the Garfield Park Conservatory, where lush palms, exotic blooms, and warm air offer the perfect escape from winter’s chill. Wrap up your adventure with a Chicago-style feast at Portillo’s, where retro vibes and local favorites like hot dogs, Italian beef, and chocolate cake are served with a side of nostalgia. Come along for a whirlwind of fun, flavor, and city sparkle—Chicago is calling!

Traveling within Chicago requires frequent walking. Please be prepared to walk up to a half a mile at a time in the winter, totaling 2 - 3 miles in a day (this includes time spent touring the museum and the conservancy). You are welcome to coordinate an Uber/Lyft/Taxi at your own expense to decrease your walking mileage.

"There’s nothing better than exploring Chicago without the hassle of driving! I’m especially looking forward to experiencing the Art Institue—and seeing The Outsiders again. This powerful Broadway musical blew me away in New York, and I can’t wait to share my love of the music and storyline with all of you (though I can’t promise I won’t cry!). Add in a tropical escape to the conservatory, a brownie made from the original 1893 recipe right at the Palmer House—the birthplace of the American brownie—and some classic Chicago street food... and this winter getaway is going to be a blast. I’m excited to travel with you!" - Mara Prausa
