Student Opportunities

Since 2001, Dr. Yahnke has been fortunate to have a number of outstanding student curators working in the mammalogy collection. These are usually student employment opportunities but other students have also conducted independent study projects using the collections or volunteered as a way of learning how to prepare museum voucher materials. For example, one independent study looked at cranial characters of northern and southern flying squirrels to determine if they could be distinguished based on suture patterns. For more information on opportunities within the mammalogy collection, contact Dr. Yahnke at cyahnke@uwsp.edu.

Current Research

Dr. Yahnke mentors many students who conduct undergraduate research on the mammalogy collection as well as projects within the UWSP student chapter of The Wildlife Society concerning small mammal communities in Schmeeckle Reserve and on interpreting bioacoustic data from bat communities throughout Wisconsin.
