Why Study GIS?
The U.S. Department of Labor recognizes geotechnology as one of the three most
progressive professions today, alongside nanotechnology and
biotechnology. Over 500,000 professionals in fields ranging
from environmental engineers to retail trade analysts are asked to use
GIS in their jobs. The Bureau of Labor Statistics show that surveyors,
cartographers, and photogrammetrists (a subset of GIS occupations) are
experiencing employment growth -- 20% (faster than average) for cartographers and photogrammetrists and 14% for surveyors and mapping technicians.
