SAWTOOTH apparently derives its name from interlocking diamond points that form the rims of various covered pieces in the pattern. While most authors treating the subject of pattern glass discuss SAWTOOTH at some length, surprisingly few references occur in collectors literature to the variant known as GIANT SAWTOOTH. This cannot be explained by any want of character on the part of design. With individual diamonds measuring almost an inch and a half in length and projecting a half inch from the body of each piece, GIANT SAWTOOTH stands out as one of the most aggressive, even weapon-like, patterns known. Pieces are heavy and often crude in appearance due to the thickness of the diamonds and vulnerability of the point.
