Overview
Provides the WEEB with advice and recommendations for awarding
grants in accordance with the needs and priorities established by the Board and
state statute. In advising the WEEB, the committee seeks input from all sectors
(via a team of volunteer proposal reviewers) involved with environmental
education.
Charge
The Grant Committee is charged with
- establishing procedures used in applying for grants,
- developing the "Request for Proposal (RFP)" document,
- soliciting proposals,
- evaluating proposals,
- recommending proposals for approval,
- overseeing reporting on programs of grants issued
- evaluating programs of grants issued
- communicating with other WEEB committees to ascertain needs and to provide
feedback that may direct their future action(s)
- reporting to the WEEB at its quarterly meetings on the status of undertaken
initiatives.
Membership
The Grant Committee will consist of five to seven members
appointed by the WEEB chairperson. The committee chairperson must be a currently
serving WEEB member and will, in consultation with committee and WEEB members,
be identified by the WEEB chairperson. Individuals will serve indefinite
appointments, with the membership typically reviewed annually during the WEEB’s
July meeting.
Meeting Location and Times
Will be at the discretion of the committee.
- The Board expects the committee will make extensive use of email,
phone-conference calls and other technologies that reduce the need for
face-to-face meetings.
- The Board expects the committee will convene/communicate frequently enough
to be able to report progress on initiatives at each of the WEEB quarterly
meetings.
- The committee will be given substantial time on the WEEB’s April meeting
agenda in order to make recommendation to the Board regarding awards for the
current grant cycle.
- The committee will be given substantial time on the WEEB’s July meeting
agenda in order to obtain approval of the request for proposal document prior to
its distribution to the public.
Additional Directives
The Grant Committee may at its discretion:
- add or remove additional committee members beyond those appointed by the
WEEB. The Grant Committee may not remove a member who was appointed directly by
the Board.
- create and dissolve sub-committees or task forces (including a team of
proposal reviewers) to carry out initiatives. Membership of sub-committees and
task forces will be approved by the membership of the Grant Committee and need
not be approved by the WEEB.
