Beyond Free Fishing Weekend: More Than Just a Weekend! (Limit: 25) - Wednesday, 9:00 am-4:00 pm - Off-site at Jordan Park Lodge

Since the late 1980s, Free Fishing Weekend events have been held across Wisconsin to coax people to the water’s edge without getting soaked for a license. At this workshop, you’ll learn how your lake association can use this weekend as a launch pad to invite people of all ages to discover the fish that live in the lakes they love. Participants will receive tools to engage lake association members with their local fisheries, brush up on basic fishing skills during hands-on activities, and become certified to lead community learn-to-fish programs that target adults.

*When registering for this workshop, please enter the registration code freefishing. This registration code discounts the fee for the workshop to $15, the cost for catered lunch.*

Introduction to Lakekit.net and WordPress Websites (Limit: 12) (Additional Fee $50) - Wednesday, 9:00 am-4:00 pm - Wisconsin Room

Is your lake organization in need of a website or is your site ready for an overhaul? In this session you’ll be introduced to the basic features of the popular, easy, and adaptable WordPress platform for building websites, and to Lakekit.net, a program of Wisconsin Lakes. Lakekit takes advantage of a powerful networking feature of WordPress allowing individual sites to be hosted within one network. That allows us to provide backend management while leaving you free to manage your site’s content. In addition, Lakekit is available for a low annual fee and features a volunteer community ready to help with a professional service provider waiting to aide on the really big problems. Come see if Lakekit and WordPress would be a good option for your organization!

Presenters:
Ken Justiniano, Northern Graphics OPS

Water Action Volunteer Introductory Monitoring Training (Limit: 12) - Wednesday, 9:00 am-4:00 pm - Off-site at Stevens Point Country Club

This session will cover the “Baseline Monitoring” methods for citizen stream monitoring with the Water Action Volunteers (WAV) program. This will be a slightly improvised version of our usual 6-hour field training, covering stream temperature, transparency, dissolved oxygen, biotic index, flow and habitat.  We WILL go to the stream unless the weather is terribly uncooperative – so dress appropriately and bring hip boots or waders if you have them. All other equipment will be provided for the training and available for loan so that all attendees will leave the session ready to be an active WAV monitor for the 2019 season.

Presenter: Peggy Compton, Natural Resources Educator and Water Action Volunteers Program Director, Extension
