Accessibility Training

Title II requires institutions receiving federal funding to meet the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1 AA guidelines. These regulations affect more than just coursework. Compliance with ADA Title II is required for all digital content. This includes online course content, web content, social media, video and audio content, email, and documents and presentations that are shared electronically.

Canvas Courses

Teams at UW System have created three courses to help campuses navigate the changes required by the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) Title II provisions. We are making these courses available now, before summer begins, to ensure those who would like to get ahead of the work needed to bring their content into compliance can do so. In the coming months, we expect to add additional Canvas and Web content remediation tools. The courses will be updated when new information is available, and participants will be notified through Canvas messaging. The information contained in these courses is essential for updating digital content to meet these standards. There are a number of required content changes that must be addressed to ensure success.

Each course will issue a micro-credential (badge) upon completion of the content of the course. This credential can be shared on your CV or socials and can also be used to produce a certificate of completion should you ever want or need to show you have completed the course. Review the descriptions for the three Canvas courses on this page and enroll in the appropriate course.

Additional Training

In the coming months, UWSP will announce our plan for supporting instructors and other personnel, including group-facilitated remediation sessions and office hours with people familiar with the requirements.
