Community of Practice


CITL will be hosting two year-long Communities of Practice during the 2024-25 Academic Year focused on high-impact practices (HIPs).
By participating in this Community of Practice, faculty/instructors will be able to:
  • Articulate the qualities of an assignment/project/experience that make them high-impact.
  • Describe the 11 categories of high-impact practices.
  • Apply knowledge of high-impact practices to design (or redesign) an assignment/project/experience to make it high-impact.
  • Apply principles of inclusive teaching and equity into the design of a high-impact practice.

During the Community of Practice, participants will:
  • Engage in readings and discussions about the educational literature supporting high-impact practices. (Fall)
  • Design (or redesign) an assignment/project/experience to make it a high-impact practice. (Fall)
  • Implement a high-impact practice in a course. (Spring)
  • Evaluate the success of their high-impact practice. (Spring)

Participants will be expected to commit to participating in the following
  • A kick-off event during fall contract week.
  • Periodic Zoom meetings (roughly once a month) during Fall and Spring semesters.
  • A January check-in meeting.
  • A wrap-up event in May to share the results of your project.

Faculty who participate and complete the above activities will receive a $500 stipend at the conclusion of the Community of Practice (May 2025).
