Dear faculty, staff and students,
This Veterans Day, I encourage you to set aside a few
moments to remember and honor those who have served our country in the Armed
Forces. I personally want our
veterans and active service men and women, as well as their families, to know
how much we appreciate their service and sacrifices for the freedoms we all
enjoy.
At UW-Stevens Point, we commemorate Veterans Day in numerous
ways.
- A Veterans Day ceremony, with the ROTC Color Guard. If you
were not able to attend the ceremony, you may see my
message to veterans.
- The Brewhaus is
offering free mugs to service members and veterans.
- The University Store
is providing 10 percent discount coupons; pick up your coupon at the Veterans
Club office, room 70D, DUC.
- The University
Store is also sponsoring a “Change for Change” donation campaign with proceeds going to
the American Legion’s Veteran’s Assistance program.
- The University
Store has a “Thank a Veteran” banner available for all members of our community
to sign.
- Dining and
Summer Conferences is providing a complimentary military student luncheon, on
November 21, in the Encore Room of the DUC.
Educating
veterans is an important part of our mission at UW-Stevens Point. For the
fourth consecutive year, UW-Stevens Point is recognized as a 2014 Military
Friendly School® by G.I. Jobs for its commitment to providing a supportive environment
for military students. G.I. Jobs lists the top 15 percent of colleges,
universities and trade schools in the country doing the most to embrace
America’s military service members, veterans and spouses as students and
ensuring their success on campus.
Please take a moment today to say thank you to all of our faculty and staff members,
students and alumni who have served our country, as well as those who have
supported them in service.
Remember – freedom isn’t free.
