We are working on planning an amazing trip for 2015. Please check back for more information.
What will we be doing?
Participants will be spending spring break volunteering with Urban
Immersion Service Retreats in Minnesota to gain awareness about poverty as well
as provide hands-on assistance with issues relating to poverty. The purpose of
this trip is to give participants an introduction to poverty through programs
such as soup kitchens, stories from homeless individuals, and activities, as
well as giving participants a chance to make a difference in the lives of
others.
We will be volunteering approximately 30 - 35 hours during the
week with free time at night to explore the city or spend time with other
volunteers. Participants will volunteer in multiple different areas, such as shelters
or soup kitchens.
How much does it cost?
The cost of ASB Minnesota is $200.00 spread over two payments. The trip
cost covers your transportation to and from Minnesota, housing, most meals, transportation within Minnesota, and training and activities by SIEO.
The trip cost does not cover dinners, meals on travel days (March 16th and
19th), souvenirs, medical insurance, and entertainment while in Minnesota. The
group has the option of doing group fundraising which can offset the cost of
out-of-pocket dinners.

What is the purpose of the pre-trip meetings?
The purposes of the meetings are three-fold:
- Get to know the other participants before you spend a week together.
- Explore the root causes of social issues.
- Prepare for the service trip.
If the group chooses to fundraise to offset out-of-pocket expenses (such as
dinners) the meetings will also be used to plan fundraisers.
