​Mental Health Counseling

Mental health counseling services are available, free of charge, to Wausau campus students. Laura Cowan, PhD is available for walk-ins or by appointment most Tuesdays (2:00 to 4:30 PM) and Thursdays (1:00 to 4:00 PM) Counseling is provided to students using a brief/intermittent model of therapy.

To schedule an appointment, please call the Solution Center at 715-261-6235.

Please note: At this time, counseling appointments will be held through secure, remote teletherapy. Students may attend counseling appointments from home or from a private space in the Solution Center if needed.

Counseling services are available to help students with a variety of concerns, including:

  • Life stress or fears
  • Academic stress
  • Adjustment difficulty
  • Interpersonal problems
  • Decision-making
  • Organization or focus
  • Planning difficulties
  • Symptoms of depression
  • Symptoms of anxiety
  • Other mental health concerns

For situations related to domestic or dating violence, stalking, sexual assault or sexual harassment, there are also on-campus support services available through the Women's Community Campus Advocate. The Campus Advocate will be on the campus Wednesday afternoons, or other planned times. Check in through the Solution Center on Wednesday afternoon for walk-in meetings or consultation, or call the victim services number at other times.
