As a frequent performer, Brent can be seen regularly in the Midwest, where he has collaborated with renowned groups such as the Milwaukee Symphony, Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, Broadway in Chicago, Chicago Jazz Orchestra, Maynard Ferguson, and Aretha Franklin. In addition to his work with these groups, Brent is a well-received soloist and clinician at high schools, colleges, and jazz festivals throughout the Midwest. With a vast performance repertoire, Brent has taken the stage in 49 states and 20 countries.
Brent Turney has been a distinguished faculty member at the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point since 2007, where he holds the position of Professor of Trumpet. At UWSP, Brent teaches applied trumpet, music entrepreneurship, and has also taught jazz history and directed the Jazz Band. He has been serving as the chair of the department since 2015. Prior to joining the faculty at UWSP, Brent held the position of Adjunct Professor at DePaul University, where he taught both jazz and classical trumpet, and directed big bands and jazz combos. In 2013, Brent established the Wisconsin Trumpet Guild, a regional chapter of the International Trumpet Guild. He also founded the Central Wisconsin Jazz Ensemble in 2014, which was rebranded in 2019 as the Wisconsin Jazz Orchestra.
Brent holds degrees in classical performance from Penn State University (Bachelor of Music), jazz studies from DePaul University (Master of Music), and classical performance from DePaul University (Classical Performers Certificate). His teachers include Ken Brader, John Daniel, Bob Lark and John Hagstrom.
