Access Department Network Shares Off Campus

Due to increasing information security concerns resulting in the removal of old technologies, Information Technology no longer supports older options such as files.uwsp.edu for remote access to department shared file drives.

If your department has not yet transitioned to using Microsoft Teams ​for ​sh​ared file storage​, see the following for help with off-campus access to your department's shared drive.  

For ease of file access and use, your department is encouraged to contact the IT Service Desk and request a Department Team Site as your new shared file storage location.​​

From your UWSP issued laptop

​If you are off-campus with your UWSP issued laptop, your department's shared drive should remain available for you to access just like when working on campus.

From your personal computer

  • Macs:  Use UWSP's VPN which permits connections to network drives.  With UWSP VPN connected, you can then connect to your department's shared drive with​ the same method used when connecting the drive to your office computer.

  • Windows PC:  ​Use Remote Desktop to connect to your office UWSP computer and file storage locations.​
