Program participants acquire abilities to teach content both in English and another language (either Spanish or Hmong). You will only be awarded the certificate if you successfully complete the English as a Second Language Minor with K-12 Teacher Certification. The Bilingual-Bicultural Education Certificate is only a few additional credits to acquire. It is administered by the Department of World Languages and Literatures.

Students who choose to become early childhood educators (birth-3rd grade license) have a passion for working with young children and helping them develop and grow. Students in the early childhood education program at UW-Stevens Point learn key strategies not only to teach young children, but also to work collaboratively with their families in family-centered, culturally-responsive and developmentally-appropriate settings. Successful candidates in the program earn a bachelor’s degree and Wisconsin teaching licenses in Early Childhood grades Pre-kindergarten through third grade. Our graduates are well prepared to engage student in inquiry, facilitate learning, develop curriculum and use student data to inform instruction.

Undergraduate students with a desire to better meet the needs of children with special needs, ages birth through 3rd grade, should consider an early childhood special education minor. Coursework focuses on early intervention, assessments and instruction. The minor can lead to a Wisconsin early childhood special education teacher license if student teaching in this setting is completed. This minor consists of 22-25 credits.

This newly approved license allows a teacher to teach 4-year old kindergarten through 9th grade. This program is only available for teachers already licensed to teach MC-EA ages 6-13 “Regular Education,” EC-MC ages 0-11 “Regular Education,” or grades 1-6, 1-8, K-6 or K-8. This newly approved license at UW-Stevens Point allows a teacher to teach 4-year old kindergarten through 9th grade. The health education minor is designed to meet the needs of students who are interested in teaching health to K-12th grade. The minor provides students with the content, practicum, and curriculum classes that are required for the state 910 add-on certification. Students who have the add-on certification will be certified to teach health for the age levels associated with their primary teaching license.
