January 12, 2024 | Applying Lean Six Sigma to Improve Efficiency

Led by Christopher Spranger

Lean and Six Sigma concepts have a long history of being used to simplify processes, remove barriers, and improve efficiency.  Now more than ever people are feeling the pressure of increased workloads due, at least in part, to the difficulty finding qualified people to fill open positions.  This labor shortage is expected to continue for many years into the future increasing the risk of burnout, mental health concerns and disengaged employees.  Lean Six Sigma is a structured methodology to examine work processes and redesign the work to minimize delays and non-value added activities.   In this session we will discuss the basics of how to get started using Lean Six Sigma methods to streamline workflows, improve customer experience, and make the work easier to accomplish - even if you have little or no exposure to Lean Six Sigma or even if your organization as a whole does not use it.

You will learn:

-To apply a core set of Lean Six Sigma tools to simplify your work, even if your whole organization does not use Lean Six Sigma

-How to identify and reduce non-value added work, so more time can be devoted to fulfilling customer needs

-How to identify process bottlenecks and make processes flow more quickly and efficiently, without working harder or longer hours

Note:  A common misconception with using Lean Six Sigma for continuous improvement is that you have to work at a large manufacturing company.  While these tools were developed and refined by large manufacturers, they have since been applied in organizations small (less than 10 employees), and large across nearly every industry: healthcare, insurance, financial, public sector, construction, technology, transportation, lodging and education to name a few.

Christopher Spranger is the founder of Spranger Business Solutions and ImproveConstantly.com.  He is an American Society for Quality (ASQ) Certified Six Sigma Master Black Belt (#72) with more than 20 years of experience with Lean Six Sigma and other continuous improvement methods.  He earned a bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Wisconsin - Platteville and an MBA in Finance and Management from the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater.  He has implemented and maintained improvement programs for numerous organizations across various industries – generating millions of dollars in accumulated savings, as well as huge improvements in quality, lead time, and customer satisfaction.  Chris has trained and coached hundreds of people on Lean Six Sigma improvement methods, implemented Lean Six Sigma based improvement programs at more than 15 organizations across multiple industries, as well as developed Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and Yellow Belt Certification courses for the MBA program at The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
