UWSP NADF SUMMER INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE

FROM THE STUDENT

Past summer intern, Cole Weede, shares his experience at UWSP NADF. The facility has summer internship opportunities for undergraduates each year, contact us to learn more.

Students learn best management practices and techniques to raise a variety of cold and cool water species that can include Atlantic salmon, Arctic char, Lake trout, Walleye, Sturgeon, Yellow perch and more. The facility has experience raising over 15 different species of freshwater finfish and has multiple species on site for research, education, and demonstration. Furthermore, the facility trains students on number of culture systems including incubation and larval systems, ponds, raceways (flow-through), and semi-commercial recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS).

In addition, UWSP NADF partners with various public and private organizations through research and demonstration, thus connecting students directly with their future employers. Due to this experience and skill set gained, the facility has nearly 100% job placement rating for students continuing their careers in aquaculture.
