Energy Action Month
The month of October holds a collection of energy awareness observations around the country.
This year, Energy Efficiency Day is observed on October 2, the Center for Energy Workforce Development will dedicate October 14-18 to Careers in Energy Week, and the Department of Energy marks the entire month as Energy Awareness Month.
Collectively, the Wisconsin K-12 Energy Education Program (KEEP) observes October as Energy Action Month and invites you, your family, classroom, and community to take action toward greater energy awareness and efficiency by participating in the opportunities below.
Make an Energy Action Pledge
Show us how you will take action to reduce consumption of natural resources, and save energy and money, in your daily life!
- Complete the pledge form.
- Display your pledge certificate for others to see.
- Challenge your family, classroom, office or organization to take the pledge.
Take the Lights Off Challenge
K-12 educators, integrate energy efficiency into your classrooms and programming with the Lights Off Challenge.
- Request a mailed Energy Action Packet, or download and print your own.
- Challenge your students to monitor light switches daily.
- Celebrate your success publicly.
Go on an Energy Scavenger Hunt
Explore your community through an electronic Energy Scavenger Hunt for students, families or community members.
Play Cool Choices
Schools participating in the Green & Healthy Schools Wisconsin can encourage staff and/or students to engage in sustainable behaviors in a fun, easy, and social way by playing Cool Choices, an online game which supports your Green & Healthy School efforts.

Explore Careers in Energy
Careers in Energy Week will take place October 14-18, 2019. The week is focused on raising awareness about energy careers available in Wisconsin. The Get Into Energy website has career profiles, videos, and skills tests related to energy careers. This PowerPoint presentation and these interviews with energy professionals in Wisconsin can be used to start a discussion and help students begin exploring careers in energy.
