Purpose:

The purpose of this activity is to help you monitor the various categories of end uses in your home or school, which can aid in the identification of ways to reduce electricity consumption.

Steps:

1. Print out a hard copy of the General End Use Survey and monitor activities for a day.

2. Try to record at least one activity per hour.

3. Under the “End Use” column, identify the activity end-use.

Some end uses (or how energy is ultimately used in the home) include the following categories:

4. Under “Source of Energy,” identify what energy resource was used (for example, electricity, battery, gas, etc.).

5. Under “Amount,” guess if the item uses a lot or a little energy.

6. After you’ve completed the survey, categorize the items based on the end use and answer the reflection questions.

6. Submit answers if required by the instructor.
