Jenny Balisle - BA Studio Art, 1998

Reflecting back on my years at UWSP, I was fortunate to complete my BA degrees in both Art and Communication from a superior institution that became the foundation for my art career.  The Department of Art & Design supports each student, while sharing real world experiences.  It allowed the freedom to explore while mastering the basics, which is important in any success.  Also, the informative and helpful instructors at UWSP guided me through the artistic process.

After finishing at UWSP, I attended the Academy of Art College in San Francisco and completed my MFA.  Years of education and focus were vital in developing a cohesive body of work.  As a result, it will take me a lifetime to explore the concept of patterns found in natural or manmade environments.

My art has been included in numerous solo and group shows that include: Factor XX, Art Museum of Los Gatos, Los Gatos, CA; A Book About Death, Museu Brasileiro, Sao Paulo, Brasil; Gateway to Imagination, Farmington Museum, Farmington, NM; Gallery 555, Oakland Museum of California, Oakland, CA; RIC ArtFutura, Chicago Cultural Center, Chicago, IL; TarFest, Korean Cultural Center, Los Angeles, CA; Infinity, Errata and Contradiction, Harvard University, Cambridge, MA; The Golda Foundation’s First Annual Juried Painting Exhibition, Fresno Art Museum, Fresno, CA.  I was also commissioned for the original Hearts in San Francisco public art project.

Today, I currently work as an artist, curator, advocate, and MFA instructor/advisor at the Academy of Art University in the San Francisco area.  My sincere gratitude goes to UWSP for the positive encouragement during the most impressionable years as a young artist.  I left having the courage and faith to move forward.
