A newly upgraded telescope and observatory at UW-Stevens Point will be coming online later this month to help students research and learn about astronomy.

The Arthur J. Pejsa Observatory had been closed all of last school year for renovations and repairs paid for by a grant. Astronomy professor Dr. Randy Olson says the upgrades will make using the telescope much easier. "Two new cameras that will be used for student research, as well as an upgraded computer control system that will actually allow us to operate the telescope from a nice warm room." Previously the telescope could only be controlled by going out on the deck of the observatory, sometimes in bitterly cold winter temperatures.
