The cry of a female turkey ready to mate rose over the murmur of camouflage-clad crowds at the Central Wisconsin Deer and Hunting Expo this weekend.

Kevin Croteau and his business Last Strut Custom Calls had a booth for the first time in the expo's three-year history. Croteau, 22, wasn't the only young entrepreneur among the 100 vendors. Twenty-one-year-old Carli Ferron, owner and operator of Northwoods Training Kennel in Cadott, attended with five — very quiet — dogs.

"Both (are) still in college, have their own business and (are) very respected by the old guard," said Chuck Collins, the expo producer...

...The show included workshops, with one presented by Croteau on turkey calling. He studies forestry management at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and has won contests and placed second in the Minnesota state calling competition.
