Area students and university leaders are speaking out about major proposed cuts to the UW system.

Governor Scott Walker's proposed cut will cost the UW system $300 million over the next two years.

Campus leaders at UW Stevens Point say it's an impact students will feel in the classroom.

"I was just gasping for air the number was so big," said Bernie Patterson, UWSP Chancellor.

Patterson says Walker's proposed budget change would cut 17 percent of the university's state funding.

That's about $6.4 million.
