“We have unrealistic expectations for relationships on Valentine’s Day, especially younger people,” said Sylvia Mikucki-Enyart, assistant professor of communication at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Her research focuses on family relationships and communication during times of change.
Do you buy a dozen roses, or plan a romantic meal at an upscale restaurant? Do you splurge on a weekend away? Do you know which of these options means the most to your partner?
If you don’t know what is romantic and meaningful to your partner, ask, Mikucki-Enyart said.
