Thousands of people will descend upon Stevens Point this weekend as the city once again becomes the epicenter of the world's largest trivia contest.

Trivia 46: Guardians of the Contest will kick off at 6 p.m. Friday, running for 54 straight hours until midnight Sunday. More than 12,000 players from around the world will participate on more than 400 teams in the battle of wits, with many hoping to be one of the top 10 finishers that will receive trophies. There is also a trophy for the team finishing 46th in this year's contest, commemorating the number of years the contest has run.

Teams will have the opportunity to answer around 450 questions over the weekend, each of which is valued at five to 500 points, based upon how many teams answer correctly. Eight questions are asked each hour over the radio at WWSP 90 FM, the student-run radio station at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point that puts on the event and benefits from its proceeds. Teams must call into WWSP 90FM to respond with an answer to a question within the length of two songs; team standings are read twice during the contest, and during those hours only four questions are asked.
