New UWSP club helps child cancer patients

A new club at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point aims to put warm hats on the heads of local children battling cancer.

UWSP students formed in December their own chapter of Love Your Melon, a nonprofit organization that works to provide therapeutic entertainment and comfy hats — handy for kids who lose hair during treatment — to children whose lives are affected by cancer.

“Children with cancer are some of the strongest people around,” said Sarah Breuer, a senior who started UWSP’s chapter. “They’re so brave. They always have a smile on. It’s a little something we can do to make their day better and make them smile for a little bit.”
