Jacob Marty would have laughed at you if you told him after high school he'd pursue a career in farming.

When Marty chose the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point for his higher education, he was drawn by its wildlife and natural resources programs, ready to work his way into a career of restoring agricultural lands into native prairies or working with endangered species. He majored in wildlife ecology with an emphasis in research and management.

Through his 4 1/2-year journey at UWSP, including a semester abroad in Denmark and a three-week trip to Kenya, Marty's ideas for his future changed. Now 22 and living in Monticello, he plans to return home to start taking over his family's dairy farm and converting it into a more ecologically and economically sustainable operation.
