Schmeeckle Reserve hosted a presentation on Sunday afternoon by University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point student Sam Haack about courtship dances performed by birds.
Haack, a senior studying environmental education and interpretation, listed for a group of about 15 people the sometimes elaborate dances performed by the bald eagle, red tailed hawk, sandhill crane, ruby-throated hummingbird, woodcock and prairie chicken. Those in attendance were invited to perform some of the dances after watching videos of birds performing the dances. Haack also described how humans dancing is similar to birds.
