The hunger pangs of Karen Weber-Mendham's three children have netted the family $50,000 and could win them a million bucks.

Noting her kids' love of cheesy garlic bread every time the family eats out, the northern Wisconsin children's librarian entered the Frito-Lay "Do Us a Flavor" contest last summer.

Weber-Mendham was shocked to get a call in October telling her she was one of three finalists out of 3.8 million entrants whose suggested flavors would be transformed into actual potato chips, packaged and sold to customers.

"It's very surreal," Weber-Mendham said in a phone interview after helping ring the opening bell Tuesday at the New York Stock Exchange.
