The public is invited to attend a ceremony to honor
veterans and service members at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Held at noon Monday, Nov. 11, the ceremony will take
place in the Dreyfus University Center’s Alumni Room. The UW-Stevens Point ROTC
Color Guard will present the colors. Al Thompson, vice chancellor of Student
Affairs, will welcome guests. Chancellor Bernie Patterson will share a message
by video, followed by guest speaker, UW-Stevens Point alumnus and retired First Sergeant Michael Butcher of the UW-STevens Point ROTC program. The ceremony will conclude with the playing of taps.
Several specials will be offered on campus for veterans
and their families, sponsored by the Basement Brewhaus, University Dining and
Summer Conferences, and the Diversity and College Access office.
UW-Stevens Point is
recognized as a 2014 Military Friendly School® for its commitment to providing
a supportive environment for military students. For the fourth year, UW-Stevens
Point has made G.I. Jobs’ list of the top 15 percent of colleges, universities
and trade schools in the country doing the most to embrace America’s military
service members, veterans and spouses as students and ensuring their success on
campus.
UW-Stevens Point has about
340 veterans, National Guard members, reservists and military dependents,
according to Ann Whipp, coordinator of Veterans Services.
