Trio Canna, a reed instrument ensemble of University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point
faculty members, will premiere a student composition at a public concert.
The performance will be held
Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 7:30 p.m. in Michelsen Hall at the Noel Fine Arts
Center. Trio Canna includes professors of music Stacey Berk on oboe, Andrea
Splittberger-Rosen on clarinet and Patricia Holland on bassoon.
“Masque of the Red Death,” by
music major Alex Shuffield of Sparta, will be performed for the first time. The
piece won the first Quadrennial Composition Contest sponsored by the Alpha
Alpha chapter of Delta Omicron International Music Fraternity.
The performance will also include
“E Toru nga Hau: the Three Winds” by Michael Burns, “Suite” by Nancy Hill Cobb,
“Reed 11” by David Solomons and “Trio” by Georges Auric.
Part of the Music Department Scholarship Series, the
concert is $8.25 for adults, $5.25 for senior citizens, $4.25 for students or
free on concert day for students with a UW-Stevens Point I.D. Tickets are

Trio Canna has been performing
together since 2002 and travels to schools throughout the Midwest to give
concerts, lectures, demonstrations and master classes.
