The legacy of excellence continues at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, with the following being recognized for achievement:
  • Senior art major Ellen Larson of Wisconsin Rapids is one of 13 students in the nation to be named a Language Intensive Focus Track (LIFT) scholar. The inaugural honor provides a minimum of $5,000 to fund her CIEE Study Abroad program in Beijing, China. Larson hopes to become an art historian and curator of contemporary Chinese art.

  • The UW-Stevens Point Disc Golf Club, ranked ninth in the nation, won first place at the 2012 Great Lakes qualifier and was featured on the website of the Professional Disc Golf Association. The win earned the team home field advantage for the National Collegiate Disc Golf Championships to be held in April 2013.

  • Doug Moore, a photographer with University Relations and Communications, won sixteenth place in the Nikon’s 2012 Photomicrography Competition for a micro photo of a fossilized Turritella agate. He also received an honorable mention for his micro photo of a fossilized stromatolite. Moore collaborated with Biology Department faculty members and used a microscope in the Parasitology Lab to capture the images.

  • The Helen R. Godfrey University Child Learning and Care Center (UCLCC) has earned national accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the nation’s leading organization of early childhood professionals. The UCLCC, celebrating its 40th year in operation in early 2013, has been NAEYC accredited since 1988. The center also recently received the highest rating of five stars through Wisconsin’s new YoungStar program. More information on the UCLCC may be found at www.uwsp.edu/childcare.
