The newly created Friends of Schmeeckle Reserve will host a Volunteer Day
Saturday, June 14, to encourage community members to get involved at the
natural area.
“We
are holding this event to invite Schmeeckle Reserve’s supporters to enjoy
camaraderie and chip in for the environment,” said Bill Berry, board president
for the Friends of Schmeeckle Reserve.
Volunteers
can help out with trail maintenance, remove invasive species such as buckthorn
and sample for earthworms for Great Lakes Worm Watch, a citizen science
project.
Volunteer
Day check-in begins at 8:30 a.m., and volunteering will run from 9 a.m. to
noon. Volunteers are invited to stay for a free lunch.
No
special skills or Friends membership is required to participate in the
Volunteer Day. Equipment will be provided.
Register
for the Volunteer Day by June 11 online at http://friendsvolunteer.eventbrite.com
