University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point students and their advisers will be among more than 150 undergraduates from around the University of Wisconsin System to exhibit their research at the state Capitol rotunda this week. 

The 11th annual “Posters in the Rotunda” event will be held Wednesday, March 12, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Elected officials, UW System Board of Regents and others will have the opportunity to view poster presentations of the research projects and speak with the students.  The event highlights positive impacts of university research in Wisconsin.

“This research helps connect students to real world problems,” said UW System President Ray Cross.

Faculty advisers from UW-Stevens Point include Shelli Dubay of wildlife, Jason D’Acchioli of chemistry, Eric Singsaas and Devinder Sandhu of biology, Nisha Fernando of interior architecture and Holly Schmies of athletics. 

UW-Stevens Point students participating include:

• Nigel Golden, a senior wildlife ecology major from Milwaukee, who researched antibodies for the bacterial disease leptospirosis in white-tailed deer from two sites in Wisconsin.
  
• Albert Webster, a senior chemistry major from Wisconsin Rapids, who researched oxidation states of metals to understand their reactions.
  
• Callie Johnson, a senior biology major, who researched the characterization of soybean genes.
  
• Samuel Knapp, a senior physics major from Iron River, who conducted low-cost biofuel laboratory exercises focused on converting biomass to renewable products.
  
• A group of senior athletic training majors, including Dillon Huth, Appleton; Mitchell Klapper, Green Bay; Seth Kuhn, New Holstein; Michael Kurek, Fond du Lac; Jonathan Pickos, Zion, Ill.; and Abby Reynolds, Wind Lake; who researched the effects of delayed onset muscle soreness after exercise and activity.
  
• Daniela Cabrera-Abarca, a senior interior architecture major from Peru, who researched the hands-on restoration and historic preservation process of two centuries-old buildings in France to apply those efforts to historic buildings in Wisconsin.
