A high-energy, entertaining and inspirational program transforming how we see our roles as educator, coach, parent or leader will be offered in Stevens Point next month as part of the “Point in Common” speaker series.

“Lead, Coach, Parent and Teach Like a Pirate” will be presented Tuesday, Feb. 16, by New York Times best-selling author and teacher Dave Burgess. The talk will be held at 7 p.m. at Sentry’s Theater@1800. It is free and open to the public.

Using a special combination of magic and humor, Burgess ignites passion and shows people how to make schools or companies amazing places that have students and employees knocking down the walls to enter.

Burgess is the author of “Teach Like a PIRATE” and co-author of “P is for PIRATE: Inspirational ABC’s for Educators.” He received national recognition as recipient of the 2014 BAMMY Award for Secondary School Teacher of the Year presented by the Academy of Education Arts and Sciences.

A resident of San Diego, he has been recognized as Teacher of the Year, a Golden Apple recipient and a faculty standout for 17 consecutive years in categories such as Most Entertaining, Most Energetic and Most Dramatic. He specializes in teaching hard-to-reach, hard-to-motivate students with techniques that incorporate showmanship and creativity. His message has transformed classrooms and boardrooms and sparked an educational revolution around the world.

“Point in Common” is sponsored by the Stevens Point Area Public School District, Pacelli Catholic Schools, UW-Stevens Point School of Education, Mid-State Technical College, Sentry Insurance, Okray Family Farms, Phi Delta Kappa and the Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin.

Free child care is available during the talk at Schmeeckle Reserve Visitors Center. To register or for more information, visit www.pointincommon.org
