‘The Endless Horizon,’ laser light shows at UW-Stevens Point’s planetarium

The Allen F. Blocher Planetarium at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point is offering shows that educate and entertain this fall.

The free program, “The Endless Horizon,” narrated by Patrick Stewart of “Star Trek: The Next Generation” will be offered at 2 p.m. Sundays, Oct. 27 and Nov. 3, 10, 17 and 24. Starting in the 1500s to today, the show looks at devices created to unlock the secrets of the solar system. It also explores the relationship between scientific discovery and advances in science theory, technology and our concept of the universe.

On Monday evenings, the “Night Sky” program is offered free of charge at 8 p.m. in the planetarium. Visitors can look in detail at objects in the current night sky. However, actual sky viewings will not be held while the Arthur J. Pejsa Observatory is upgraded this fall.

Laser light shows set to rock music will be offered this fall as a fundraiser for the planetarium. Shows will be held at 8, 9 and 10 p.m. nightly, Tuesday through Saturday, Oct. 29-Nov.  2 and Wednesday through Saturday, Nov. 6-9. Halloween night, Thursday, Oct. 31, also will include an 11 p.m. show. Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for students and $3 for students with UW-Stevens Point I.D. and are available at the door beginning at 7:30 p.m. Shows are recommended for ages 12 and older.

  • Wednesday, Oct. 30 – Laser Metallica
  • Thursday, Oct. 31 – Fright Light
  • Friday, Nov.  1 – Laser Zeppelin
  • Saturday, Nov.  2 – Pink Floyd – The Wall
  • Wednesday, Nov. 6 – Laser Beatles
  • Thursday, Nov.  7 – Laser Vinyl – A Classic Rock Experience
  • Friday, Nov.  8 – Pink Floyd – The Wall
  • Saturday, Nov.  9 – Pink Floyd – Dark Side of the Moon
P​​lanetarium seating is first come, first served for up to 60 people. Groups of 15 or more may schedule a special showing of any planetarium program by calling 715-346-2208. These presentations cost $15 per group

The planetarium is located on the second floor of the UW-Stevens Point Science Building at the corner of Reserve Street and Fourth Avenue.
