The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point will host a conference promoting diversity and inclusion Wednesday, April 24.
The O.N.E. (One New Effort toward diversity and equity) Day conference is free and open to the public.  A goal is to make the community and UW-Stevens Point more welcoming and diverse.
The conference, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., will be held at the Dreyfus University Center Laird Room.
Key presenters are:
  • Daisy Rodriguez-Pitel, whose duties include multicultural programming, international student programming and community outreach at Pima Community College in Tucson, Ariz. She will present “Dimensions of Diversity” and “The Interconnectedness of Diversity Initiatives and Institutional Responsibility.”
  • David Shih, UW-Eau Claire's first equity, diversity and inclusivity fellow and associate professor of English. He will present “Anti-Racist Consciousness and Inclusion.”
  • Jim Mohr, acting assistant dean of student success and outreach at the Community Colleges of Spokane. His session explores the use of power and privilege and becoming an agent of personal and institutional change through collaboration.
The conference also includes a Native American opening; a diverse mix of students in a panel discussion.
Anyone interested is welcome to register for the conference at www.uwsp.edu/equity. Questions about this event can be directed to the Equity and Affirmative Action office at 715-346-2002 or to Mai Vang at mavang@uwsp.edu.
UW-Stevens Point is committed to assuring equity and diversity, building cultural awareness and overcoming subordination or segregation of certain groups of people. An inclusive excellence leadership team embraces these goals and aims to increase recruitment and retention of diverse students, faculty and staff.
